Human resources are basically office furniture with legs. They're talking furniture. In fact, they're worse than
furniture, because at least furniture stays where you put it. It doesn't have
body odor, or forward chain e-mails, or stop by to tell you about its sick cat.
Have you ever walked into your office (or a
shopping mall) and blinked because it was actually brighter in there than
outside in the sunlight? That's due to an incredibly common problem called
"over-illumination." That's basically any time artificial light is
brighter than it needs to be to do a given task. And if your task is sitting at
a computer all day, the chances are you don't need your surroundings to be
brighter than your computer screen or, say, the surface of the sun.
Have you been to the doctor's office
several times, and yet, they cannot really find anything wrong? It may be
explained or surmised, that it's all in your head, or you need to rest more and
be less stressed. Or they put your illness in an all-encompassing category that
is not real specific with no treatment? Have you left the doctor's office more
upset and frustrated that nobody is taking you seriously and nobody cares? Read
below, as I offer you some simple, low cost tests you can do at home, to help
you find out what is really going on. I will offer some web sites to visit that
I have no affiliation with, so that you may find some products to help you
solve your mystery illness.
So what is burnout and how do you know if
you have it? Burnout is characterized by signs of tension between us and
coworkers, family and friends. We avoid others, and find ourselves numb to
events in our lives that once brought us joy and happiness. We lose our
passion, a sense of purpose, a vision that things will get better Now I work
from home. My smells are my business. No one leaves the coffee pot technically
not empty but me. It's not all upside. I miss the steady paycheck. I miss being
able to go to the bathroom and think, "I'm getting paid for this." But
I don't miss the guidelines. I do like being a person.
With offices, loud personal conversations
happened behind closed doors. We didn't need guidelines on what constituted an
acceptable ring-tone. Well. There were no ring-tones, obviously. But if there
had been, it wouldn't have mattered. Because of offices. Offices with doors. I
got out. I couldn't take it any more . We find we have lower creativity,
perspective and a sense of humor. This can lead to feelings of despair,
frustration, exhaustion, and loss of resilience. Despite this, we keep on
going, after all, “I’m strong. I am a caregiver.” We find ourselves blaming
others for our feelings. This can lead to decreased productivity, sick days,
and absenteeism at work.
