Big color news today! Pantone released
their ten color choices for Fashion, Spring 2013. While the color trends in the
worlds of interiors and clothing don't always run at the same pace, the home decorating ideas
of an overall color zeitgeist is a valid one. When a trend starts running hot
in one arena, it often follows suit in the other. Jump below for all of
Pantone's picks...
“We’re calling this mellow yellow because it is really muted against
a lot of those neons and bright colors we saw last year.” Like blue, she says
this paler yellow is being used in a neutral shade against darker and richer
colors.
Even if it's not color in your wardrobe,
you may find it hard to resist a smile when you spot Kelly Green. The green is
happy, full of life, and has enough yellow in it to keep it bright. Painting an
entire room or even one whole wall may seem overwhelming. Incorporate this
color in your accessories. Some home decor designs stick with a pop of red,
achieved with a red vase or one special tabletop accessory. You can do the same
with green.
Why spend lots of money on lighting when
you can make a $5 estate sale lamp look like a new one. A little spray paint
and a new shade and our bedroom has new visitors! If anyone has any suggestions
on stenciling the shades, I'd love to hear them! Visit our blog for more
interior decorating details.
And while Talarico agrees with Pantone, the
ultimate authority on color trends, that emerald green is the color of the year
for 2013, he notes, “I’ve also seen how Neutrals remain strong, incorporating
pops of color as bold accents.
Lounge areas continue to be popular, with
living room-style couches and chairs in unique shapes and patterns for indoors
or outdoors. Says Talarico, "For me personally, graphics, patterns and
textures are always good. Items that bring a residential feel to an event to
personalize the space. I also see shiny surfaces such as patent leather and
glossy vinyl’s in button-tufted patterns as hot. Metals such as brass and
nickel are being used wonderfully."
Among the home design trends 2013 are grass
cloth and animal prints, floral and striped patterns, earthy textures and
colors including natural wood, bamboo flooring and stone. High gloss lacquer
and the popular chevron patterns are also among the latest 2013 home design
trends. We are seeing exotic decor, tribal prints and ethnic embroidered
fabrics. You don’t need an entire room remodel to get the look. Adding throw
pillows, cozy quilts and blankets, a geometric print modern rug, and maybe some
striped curtains will perk up your home this season.
