That
"home improvement" catch phrase dominated the childhood of former
sitcom star Zachery Ty Bryan, and while his experience was filled with
positives, these days he says he is more than happy to be working on the other
side of the lens.
Zachery
Ty Bryan (born October 9, 1981) is an American actor and producer best known
for his role as Brad Taylor on the American sitcom Home Improvement. Before he
starred in Home Improvement, he started in Denver with print and television
advertising. His interest in acting soon brought him to California, where he
received the role of Brad, the oldest Taylor child, in the show Home
Improvement. His character was known for experimenting with different hair
styles as well as being the child most often in trouble. He is actually one
month younger than Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who played his younger brother Randy
on the show.
In
the middle of home improvement Bryan made an appearance as Steve on The Fresh
Prince of Bel-Air in 1995. After Home Improvement ended, Bryan made brief
appearances in many other television shows including (2002) Buffy the Vampire
Slayer as Peter Nicols, (2005) Veronica Mars as Caz Truman, and (2006) Shark as
Scott Natterson, as well as a guest appearance on an episode of Reading
Rainbow. Additionally, he made a cameo appearance on MTV's "I Bet You
Will" in which he portrayed himself and competed in a challenge where he
wrestled female convicted felons.
"I
had phenomenal parents," he told CNN. "They kept me very grounded,
and I lived a normal life." A life that included playing team sports and
attending "regular school" during his time off from filming.‘Home
Improvement' was the key in the ignition that started the engine," he
said. "It not only was financially great for me and my family, but it was
such a learning experience. ... I can sit in a meeting with someone twice my
age and have close to the same experience. I've always looked at 'Home
Improvement' and my early-age success as an opportunity to learn and be able to
eventually put on this cap that I'm wearing now."
Hollywood.com
got a chance to speak with actor-turned-producer Bryan, and to learn a bit
about his perspective on the home improvementt days. "One of my favorite
[episodes] was the one where I got caught smoking marijuana by my
parents," Bryan, 30, tells us. "I thought that was a really, really
good episode because I think it’s something that all families go
through."With such frenzy over a photo shoot, rumors naturally started
spreading about the likelihood of a "Home Improvement" reunion. It's
hard to visualize how such a thing would even work, but it sure is an
interesting prospect.
